Philip George Zimbardo este un psiholog american și profesor emerit la Universitatea Stanford. A devenit cunoscut pentru experimentul din 1971 în penitenciarul Stanford, iar apoi a scris diverse cărți introductive de psihologie, manuale pentru studenți și alte lucrări notabile, printre care: Efectul Lucifer, Paradoxul timpului și Curățenia în timp.
După experimentul din închisoare, Zimbardo a decis să caute modalități prin care să-și poată folosi psihologia pentru a-i ajuta pe oameni; acest lucru a dus la înființarea Clinicii de Shyness din Menlo Park, California, care tratează comportamentul timid la adulți și copii. Cercetările lui Zimbardo despre timiditate au dus la realizarea mai multor cărți cu cele mai bine vândute teme. Alte subiecte pe care le-a cercetat includ controlul minții și comportamentul cultic. [20] Zimbardo este coautor al unui manual de psihologie introductiv intitulat “Psihologie și viață”, folosit în multe cursuri americane de psihologie.
